It’s been a bit weird (to say the least) studying what is meant to be a practical course remotely. So when my Programme Leader asked me if I was around and wanted to do some voluntary tech work - I jumped at the chance.

157 runners, joggers and walkers joined us on Saturday morning for the 23rd Pocket parkrun. The sun kept threatening to emerge from behind the clouds but it remained obscured for the duration of the event. Joining us this morning were a variety of superheros, from Spider-man to Batman to Superman. I think I also saw the Joker running in memory of Stan Lee, who passed away on Monday. Congratulations to all of them, I don’t know how you managed in your various costumes! Also joining us were 11 people running their first ever parkrun and 8 people who were running in Pocket park for the first time. Of the 135 who had come along before, 64 (just shy of half) managed a new PB, of whom 12 were junior runners. On to the first finishers. Male first finisher was Chris Butterworth finishing in a new PB of 17:43 and female first finisher was Olivia Hooper who also achieved a new PB in a time of 21:11. The runner with the highest age grade this week was Faith Taylor, an under 10 who managed an astonishing 75.24% and a PB of 22:41, putting all us older runners to shame…

Welcome to the run report for the 22nd parkrun in Pocket park. 165 runners, joggers and walkers joined us on a nice sunny morning. The route was a bit slippy this week thanks to rain we had on Friday night but that didn’t stop 40 people achieving a new PB! Of those 7 people have achieved back-to-back PBs both last week and this week. Mick Odell however, is the only one of those seven to gain a PB for three weeks in a row! Of the 165 parkrunners this weekend, 34 of them took park in their first Pocket parkrun and 15 joined us for their first ever parkrun.

This Saturday saw 173 people gather in Pocket park for the 19th parkrun. This week I wasn’t one of them but that doesn’t mean that I can’t bring you some analysis of the results this weekend. 30% of everyone walking, jogging or running finished with a new PB this week and 39 people completed Pocket parkrun for the first time, 17 of them participating in their first ever parkrun. Chris Butterworth was our first finisher this week running in a time of 18:13. He’s part of an illustrious list of 11 pocketeers who have finished first at every Pocket parkrun they’ve taken part in but becomes the first person to have run at multiple events and was the first finisher in both of them. This week’s female first finisher was a Junior by the name of Olivia Mead who ran a 20:59 at her first parkrun here in Pocket park. As well as being the first female finisher, she finished 2nd on the age-graded standings with a fantastic 73.87%. Tim Butterworth came top of the age grade rankings for the third week in a row. He achieved 80.31% and a new PB of 19:08. Today, our 1,600th different parkrunner in Pocket park crossed the finish line. Zoe Timbrell who finished in a time of 39:27 has that honour. It’s not always the fast ones that get the glory!

This Saturday, 199 parkrunners braved the winds of storm Callum to take part in the 18th parkrun in Pocket park. Of course as well as the wind there was the rain! I thought that we’d just got away with it but no - it really chucked it down at about the 40 minute mark. 62 parkrunners were first timers to Pocket (31% of the field) and 8 of those ran in their inaugural parkrun with us this weekend. Of those runners joining is for their first time, Steve Grout ran at his 50th different event dressed in a cow onesie. We also had 17 tourists from Eye Community Runners join us in Pocket park.
