New Project!

You may be aware that I’m currently in Derby studying for a degree in Sound, Light and Live Event Technology with the hope of entering the TV industry in the future. It’s been a bit weird (to say the least) studying what is meant to be a practical course remotely. So when my Programme Leader asked me if I was around and wanted to do some voluntary tech work - I jumped at the chance.

The Story of Station Updates

In June 2019, I started a project to investigate the Realtime Trains (RTT) api. I used python as that was the language I was most proficient in. It was initially just a small file getting a station’s departures and displaying them.

So, What's Just Happened?

Well, in summary: the country is just as divided as it has been since June 2016. Last night we saw Nigel Farage’s new Brexit party taking seats from his old party UKIP. The parties that support Bexit recieved about 50% of votes cast, as did those parties that would like to remain in the EU.

Today, 237 ran, walked and jogged round Pocket parkrun. We had an unusually large group of first timers this morning - 42 in fact, 22 of whom were running a parkrun for the first time. Among those who had run Pocket pefore, there were 52 PBs today. We also had a number of tourists with us from Kings Lynn, Milton Keynes, St Albans and Cambridge. Perhaps the loudest tourist we’ve ever had, Sharon Threlfall100_club_mini25_club_mini, an RD at Westmill parkrun, celebrated an arbitry 150th parkrun with us this weekend. #BlameStephen This week, our first two finishers forgot thier barcodes! This week, 180 parkrunners braved freezing temperatures at the 35th Pocket parkrun. We also had 33 people joining us for the first time and 10 running their inaugural parkrun. Thank you to everyone who used the school playground or the Conygear carpark  to park this morning, it worked really well and hopefully we’ll be able to do the same for the next few weeks. Pocket park saw 217 people run, walk and jog this week’s parkrun. As is the case at this time of year, the ground was a bit slippy under foot so the Core Team does recommend you get yourself some trail shoes to help you grip the mud. Also, as it’s “the end of the season” (even though it’s still January) there could be some great deals if you go looking.

157 runners, joggers and walkers joined us on Saturday morning for the 23rd Pocket parkrun. This Saturday saw 173 people gather in Pocket park for the 19th parkrun. This week I wasn’t one of them but that doesn’t mean that I can’t bring you some analysis of the results this weekend. 30% of everyone walking, jogging or running finished with a new PB this week and 39 people completed Pocket parkrun for the first time, 17 of them participating in their first ever parkrun. Chris Butterworth was our first finisher this week running in a time of 18:13. He’s part of an illustrious list of 11 pocketeers who have finished first at every Pocket parkrun they’ve taken part in but becomes the first person to have run at multiple events and was the first finisher in both of them. This week’s female first finisher was a Junior by the name of Olivia Mead who ran a 20:59 at her first parkrun here in Pocket park. As well as being the first female finisher, she finished 2nd on the age-graded standings with a fantastic 73.87%. Tim Butterworth came top of the age grade rankings for the third week in a row. He achieved 80.31% and a new PB of 19:08. Today, our 1,600th different parkrunner in Pocket park crossed the finish line. Zoe Timbrell who finished in a time of 39:27 has that honour.
